Leira Marie Orta.

Meet Leira Orta, one of the four main characters of the Taliah comic series. Leira is an Elemental Magick wielder who works as a Zoologist and Cataloger for the Archive of Zoological and Ecological Classifications Department in the city of Jaixia, the capital of Procoline Kingdom. See more of her bio below:

Leira Marie Orta was born to Cora and Bourne Orta seven years after her brother, Ire, in the city of Abarogue near the eastern mountains of Procoline Kingdom. Unlike the rest of her family, Leira awakened with Elemental power around age five, though, to hear it told by her grandfather on her mother’s side, Bronsan, Cora seemed to have a predilection to elemental energies even if she never showed aptitude. Though Leira never saw her mother use Magick, there were times when holes in the garden were dug just a little bit too fast, the soil wet when there weren’t water buckets nearby, a fire coming to life when it shouldn’t, or a breeze cooling her skin when no winds were blowing. Ire, Leira’s magickless brother, was never close with her. He resented her because of her awakening and, being much older, distanced himself from her early on.

Later in life, Leira's mother, Cora, left the household. Soon after, Bourne ascended to General of the Military of Procoline Kingdom.  Letters from Leira's mother reached the homestead for a time but stopped suddenly one day. The last correspondence she ever received was a letter from her mother stating that she was heading to Vinemount Provinces, in a location near The Dark, where a research station had been set up. They were going to make forays into the Dark to better understand it. Whenever she didn’t hear from her mother again, Leira believed the worst. Pleas to her father fell on deaf ears, so Leira decided to do something about it.

A few years earlier, Leira had earned a degree in Zoology from one of Jaixia’s best universities. With her aptitude at Elemental Magick and the status it afforded her, she took a position with the Archive of Zoological and Ecological Classifications Department, a position that was near and dear to her heart. She would be responsible for venturing across the world, registering, cataloging, and updating the records of Procoline Kingdom regarding various plants and animals. It also allowed her to “search” for her mother, though her inquires would prove fruitless in the end.

As time went on, she continued working, looking for her mother when she could, though hopes of finding her dimmed as the years trudged by. Her relationship with her father grew strained and she hadn’t spoken with Ire in nearly a decade. But, Leira was happy. She was happy until a return from Warukem Sovereignty started a domino effect that would forever change her life.
